Moving-chamber apparatus; for granular material.-Comprises a hopper in the mouth of which a cylinder revolves, the shell of the cylinder consisting of fixed sections and cam-operated movable sections pivoted at one end to the fixed sections and forming the bottoms of the measuring chambers, the closure of each chamber being completed in turn by a partition forming part of the hopper. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, one end of the cylinder is rotatably mounted on the shaft while the other end rotates on a boss formed in the hopper frame. The fixed sections 3 connect the ends 2 and are beaded to form together with cavities in the movable sections 4 pivots for the latter. The sections 3 are curved to the track of the ends of the sections 4. The latter have extensions carrying rollers 9, which rest on the coned end of a sleeve 6 adjustable axially by the handwheel 7 and a screw. The cone is cut away to permit axial movement of the sleeve past a fixed cam 8. The cylinder is rotated by any suitable means connected to the right-hand end disk 2. The dough or other material in the hopper forces down the sections 4, filling the pockets. Each pocket is completely closed just before discharge commences by a partition 11 forming part of the hopper. When the rollers 9 ride over the cam 8 the sections 4 are forced out to discharge the material, a scraper 12 assisting if necessary. The depth to which the sections 4 enter the cylinder is regulated by movement of the cone from the wheel 7. In a modification a roller, driven from the cylinder or otherwise, is introduced into the outlet of the hopper. In a further modification, the material is fed to the cylinder by a screw in the outlet of the hopper. In a still further modification, the sections 4 are arranged to move out from the cylinder, the gap between two sections co-operating with a pivoted part of the hopper to form the pocket. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a form in which the cylinder is arranged tangentially to the outlet of the hopper, the feeding of the material from the hopper rotating the cylinder. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
