Abstract
1487671 Measuring water content in oil I B D JENSEN 20 June 1975 [26 June 1974] 26362/75 Heading G1S Water is removed from oil by evaporation, the vapour condensed and the condensate discharge rate provides an indication of the water content. Heaters 27 are provided in an element 2 and oil is fed from a supply pipe 5 through a control valve (not shown) to a feed channel 13 and to an inlet opening 14 from which the oil follows a zigzag path in an inclined oil flow plate 18 to a discharge channel 20. From there the oil flows over a bi-metal strip 17 which controls an overflow valve 16, increasing its opening at falling temperatures. The water vapour is collected through an opening 21 and passes to a separate condenser in a panel 3 from which the condensate is discharged in drops from an outlet 24. Electrodes 25 may be used to detect the drops and thus aid the measurement of time interval between drops.
