Abstract

1487174 Screw sockets B N SHEADER 15 Oct 1974 [31 July 1973] 36419/73 Heading F2H A screw socket comprises a cylindrical sleeve 1 of deformable material, e.g. rubber or plastics, and a nut 2, e.g. of metal or plastics, the nut 2 having a shank portion 4 engaged in the end of the sleeve 1 and a flange portion 6 having an undercut face 7 engaging the end of the sleeve and defining an annular dished recess for housing the end face 1a of the sleeve to prevent the sleeve slipping over the nut when the sleeve is compressed between the nut and the head of a screw. The undercut may be straight or radiused (Fig. 2A, not shown). The shank portion 4 may be ridged or knurled to grip the interior of the sleeve. The sleeve may have radial projections 8 to resist rotation. Various alternative shapes for the end face 1a of the sleeve are disclosed (Figs. 3A-3G, not shown). As in Fig. 4 (not shown) an annular bead (20) on the nut may be provided to engage an internal annular groove (19) in the sleeve 1.
