1487050 Biodegradable compositions COLOROLL Ltd 26 Nov 1974 [28 Nov 1973 7 March 1974] 44500/76 and 44501/76 Divided out of 1485833 Headings C3P and C3U Biodegradable compositions comprise (1) a synthetic resin having carbon to carbon linkages and (2) natural starch granules, the surfaces of said granules being modified by reaction with a compound which readily reacts with hydroxyl groups to form an ether or an ester. The compound may be an isocyanate or a silicone, and the compositions may also contain an unsaturated fatty acid, fatty acid ester or mixture thereof. The compositions may be made into flexible films, e.g. for packaging, and examples describe a film made from a composition comprising polyethylene, silicone treated maize starch, ethyl oleate and oleic acid.
