Abstract

1486828 Air vent unit for ventilation HESS & CIE 9 Sept 1974 [12 Sept 1973] 39206/74 Heading F4V An air vent unit (for supplying air to a room) has an exit cross-section at least part of which is between two air-directing surfaces 2a, 2b. Means 3 can change the orientation of the surfaces 2a, 2b at more than one rate. The means 3 is programmable by a programming device (not shown) so that the air-directing surfaces can be moved according to a programme including more than one rate of movement of the directing surfaces. As shown, the surfaces 2a, 2b are planar and are moved to and fro by an electric motor. The unit is arranged above a false ceiling 6. In a modification, the exit cross-section comprises two pairs of air-directing surfaces (2a, 2b and 2c, 2d), Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further embodiment, the exit cross-section is provided by a diametral slit (10a), Fig. 3 (not shown), through a rotatable cylinder 10, the sides of the slit providing air-directing surfaces. In another embodiment air-directing surfaces 13, 14, Fig. 4 (and Fig. 5, not shown) are pivoted in a box 1 at 15, 16 and are pivotable to different positions by a plate 21 which is movable as indicated at 22 so that the edges of slots 19, 20 act on cam pins 17, 18 for moving the surfaces. With all alternatives, different speeds of displacement of the airdirecting surfaces can be selected. When the supply air jet is very rapidly moved to and fro, the supply air remains at the ceiling. With only a slight cyclic variation of the supply air jet direction, the depth and range of penetration thereof are increased.
