Vulcanizing tyres.-In making pneumatic-tyre covers, a partially vulcanized flat sectioned tyre cover A, Fig. 1, is expanded by the direct action of fluid pressure and is retained in its expanded condition for vulcanizing purposes by an internal mechanically expanded ring. The tyre cover A is placed between the plates B, B<1>, and the plate B<1> is advanced towards the plate B by the ram C. Air, admitted to the chamber D' from the reservoir D<5>, expands the tyre cover so that its centre part is forced outwards to give the desired shape. During the expansion, the expansible ring F is held in its contracted form, Fig. 3, by the pin F<1> and the lever F<3>, but finally the free end F<3x> of the lever comes into contact with the plate B to release the ring. It then expands, Fig. 5, under the action of internal springs until it fills the space within the expanded tyre cover and, after the air has been allowed to escape through the cock D<6>, the plates B, B' are separated and the tyre cover is removed in its expanded form on the ring, and vulcanized. A fluidtight joint between the tyre cover and the plates B, B' is made, for beaded tyres, by means of a separate ring H<2>, Fig. 9, and a packing ring J, or, for wired-on tyres, by means of an L-sectioned packing-ring M. In a modification, a tyre cover is expanded by creating a vacuum outside it.
