Abstract

1485989 Filter PLENTY GROUP Ltd 23 May 1975 [4 June 1974] 24772/74 Heading B1D An outward-flow cylindrical filter element comprising inner and outer perforate walls 6, 8 with a layer of needled polypropylene felt between them is cleaned by at least two axially and angularly spaced rotary nozzles, spring-loaded into contact with the inner wall 6 and connected by central duct 16 to solids discharge valve 14, which opens to atmosphere so that the pressure outside the element causes reverse flow through the felt opposite the nozzles. Duct 16 is rotated by motor 18, and as shown three nozzles 24 sweep axially overlapping sections of the element, the middle nozzle being on the opposite side of duct 16 from the other two. Nozzles can be spring- loaded at each axial end, but as shown the springs are provided round central spigots 22, and the ends of nozzles are slidably guided by pins engaging in straps 46 (Fig. 2 not shown). Each nozzle comprises a cloth-reinforced phenolic resin pad which engages wall 6 and may be independently spring-loaded. The pad may be in one piece with an axial slot or in two spaced pieces. An alternative pad comprises a slotted roller, which rolls across wall 6.
