Abstract

1485641 Container handling apparatus; loading station J C POIRIER 14 Aug 1974 [14 Aug 1973] 35880/74 Headings B8Q and B8E Apparatus for setting up a container 49 vertically on a base 1 in conjunction with a trailer 44 having a platform 48 tiltable by a jack 51 comprises a cradle 2 pivotable about stub axles 29, 30 by jacks, not shown, acting on axis lines 31, 32. The container when set up on the base acts as a silo which by opening a trap door in its then lower end can discharge through a rectangular opening 61 into hoppers leading to a discharge conveyer. A trailer 44 with a container in its horizontal transport position is backed towards the base 1 until a pin depending from the end of the chassis 44 fully enters a slot 37 in a plate 36 in which position the pivot axis of the platform 48 is aligned with the axis of the stub axles 29, 30. The jacks of the cradle 2 are now actuated until the cradle is swung to rest on the top edge of the container 49 by its long angle irons 12, 14 in which position it is secured. Simultaneous actuation of the jack 51 and the jacks of the cradle 2, with their hydraulic circuits linked, now pivots the cradle 2 and attached container until they can be secured vertically on the base 1. During the simultaneous operation of the jacks those which are contracting act as a brake particularly in the latter stages of movement. After being set up the container can be released from the platform 48 which can be returned to its horizontal position by the jack 51 so that the trailer can be towed away.
