Abstract

1485448 Comminuting apparatus; comminuting at low temperatures B O C INTERNATIONAL Ltd 5 Nov 1975 [11 Nov 1974] 48783/74 Heading B2A A process for comminuting a combustible material employs milling in atmosphere the oxygen content of which is controlled below the level at which combustion of the material would be supported. An inert fluid e.g. liquid nitrogen may be added to the mill to maintain an oxygen atmosphere <15% and preferably <9%. The mill which includes an oxygen content motor may be used to grind sulphur and may be a hammer mill ball mill rod mill or jet mill. Liquid nitrogen is added by a valve 16 controlled in response to a flow indicator 24. Ground sulphur is removed by a conduit 28.
