Abstract

1485255 Powder colour change device for spray coating CHAMPION SPARK PLUG CO 9 Feb 1976 [3 March 1975] 04996/76 Heading B2L Apparatus for changing the colour of powder used in a spraying operation comprises a spray gun 15, a conduit connected thereto, through which during spraying powder travels in a first direction, pump means 19, 20, in communication with said conduit for supplying different colour powders 23, 24 thereto, means 13, 14, for stopping the supply of a first colour powder to said conduit and spray gun, means for applying a flow in a reverse direction from said first direction to initially purge a first colour powder from said conduit, means for supplying air to said conduit and spray gun in said first direction to purge further first colour powder from said conduit, and means for supplying a second colour powder to said conduit and spray gun. The means for applying a reverse flow may be an air supply 18 arranged to provide a reverse flow under pressure, or a vacuum pump 21 and reservoir' 25 working by suction; Fig. 2 (not shown) explains in detail a valving arrangement for automatic operation; colour spraying of car-bodies is referred to. This latter arrangement allows for a further purging flow in said first direction; all 3 purges are of 1-5 seconds duration.
