Abstract

1484945 Cleansing and sterilizing soft contact lenses R E MCCLURE 16 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 36273/74 Heading G2J Hydrophilic soft contact lenses are cleansed and sterilized by immersion in a biologically inert aqueous solution e.g. normal saline held in a storage container 6 which is subjected to ultrasonic vibration produced by oscillator 8, the temperature of the solution being sensed by thermistor 32 and the ultrasonic vibrations being intermittently interrupted to prevent the temperature rising above about 70‹C. Air vents 78 and 82 aid in cooling the container and an off-on switch 16 is provided for the oscillator. The container 6 may be partitioned to hold a pair of lenses and may be fitted with a cover 22.
