Abstract
1484314 Microscopes COULTER ELECTRONICS Inc 16 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 44829/74 Heading G2J In a microscope an object 10 is illuminated by a source 16 via a filter wheel 22, the light from the object being reflected or transmitted by a dichroic element 26 according to its colour. The reflected ray is again split by a further dichroic element 42. As described orange, yellow/green, or green light may be used alternatively or synchronously to illuminate the object. Orange light is transmitted by element 26 and is largely reflected by element 52, the image 36 being altered in magnification by lenses 32, 34 before passing to sensor 56. Yellow/ green light is reflected at both 26 and 42 and passes to sensor 56, which may be an image tube, via lens 48 and element 52. Green light is reflected by element 26 but transmitted by element 42, thereby reaching sensor 60 without further magnification. The optical paths 28, 30 and combiner 52 are so balanced as to give substantially equal amounts of illumination at 56 from each path. Alternatively, each beam path may terminate at a separate respective detector.
