Abstract

1484276 Polymerizing acrylate monomers LOCTITE (IRELAND) Ltd 22 Aug 1974 37009/74 Heading C3P In a process for curing compositions comprising (1) a free radical polymerizable acrylate monomer, (2) a free radical polymerization initiator and (3) an inorganic filler, contained in a cavity, an aqueous solution of 25 to 60 weight per cent of waterglass is applied to the surface of the composition, the water is allowed to evaporate therefrom to leave an oxygen impermeable coating of waterglass on the surface, the composition is allowed to harden and the waterglass coating is subsequently washed off with water. The monomer may be a reaction product of an acrylic ester having a hydroxyl or amino group in the alcohol moiety with an organic polyisocyanate. Examples describe the curing of tooth fillings comprising urethane acrylate monomers, methacrylic acid, methacryloxy trimethoxysilane, naphthoquinone, plasticizer, glass powder and (I) cumene hydroperoxide, benzophenone and hydroxyethylmethacrylate or (II) dibenzoyl peroxide, N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine and hydroxypropyl methacrylate.
