1484196 Ophthalmic lenses AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 16 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 36171/74 Heading G2J A multi-focal ophthalmic lens comprises a plurality of vertically juxtaposed viewing zones, the uppermost of which is of constant dioptric power for distance viewing, all other viewing zones each being formed by at least three laterally juxtaposed areas, the central one of which has a constant dioptric power higher than that of the area above; the outermost areas of said other viewing zones are aspheric so as to continue into the adjoining areas and their axes of astigmatism lie in vertical and horizontal planes with respect to the bearing position; the boundaries between adjacent outer areas of two vertically juxtaposed viewing zones are of constant height and are shaped to render them substantially invisible.
