Abstract
1484128 Flame retardant polyurethane foams TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc 10 Oct 1974 [15 Oet 1973] 48041/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] A polyurethane foam-forming mixture comprises (a) an organic polyisocyanate having a functionality of at least 2, (b) a polyether polyol, a polyester polyol, or mixture thereof, (c) a foaming agent, (d) a catalyst and (e) from 3 to 30 parts by weight of a flame-retardant additive per 100 parts by weight of the polyol, the flameretardant additive being a phosphoric ester amide of the formula wherein R is a C 4 -C 8 chloroalkyl group having 1 to 4 Cl atoms, a bromoalkyl or chlorobromcalkyl group containing 1 to 8 C atoms and from 1 to 4 halogen atoms, or a chloro(bromo- or chlorobromo)phenoxyalkyl group containing from 8 to 12 C atoms and 1 to 4 halogen atoms, R<SP>1</SP> is H or a C 6 -C 14 aryl group and R<SP>11</SP> is a C 1 -C 10 alkyl group, a chloro(bromo- or chlorobromo-)alkyl group containing 1 to 8 C atoms and from 1 to 4 halogen atoms, a C 6 -C 14 aryl group, a chloro(bromo- or chlorobromo)aryl group containing 6 to 14 carbon atoms and 1 to 4 halogen atoms, or a cyclohexyl group. The additive is suitably first blended with the polyol and the blend then added to the other ingredients. Examples are given for the production of flexible polyurethane foams.
