Abstract
1483662 Dropping mercury electrode shield UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE 11 April 1975 [11 Jan 1974] 1435/74 Heading G1N A dropping mercury electrode 6 is shielded by a funnel shaped shield 5 having a cup portion 7 and a stem portion 8, the electrode defining with the stem portion 8, an annular flow-path. Preferably the stem has a straight portion 8 and a curved end 10. As shown, liquid to be analyzed is optionally mixed with a reagent, which may complex unwanted ions, from 14, is de-aerated at 12 by nitrogen from 14 and passed via inlet 3 into cell 1 in which the electrode 6 and shield 5 are fixed. The fluid exits from the cell at 4 and "dropped mercury" at 2. As the liquid flows through the cell, some passes into cup 7 and out of outlet 10 resulting in a smooth flow past the electrode. The electrode may be raised or lowered relative to the shield.
