Abstract

1483661 Gas turbine engine LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Dec 1974 [4 Jan 1974] 00358/74 Headings F1L and FIT In a gas turbine engine comprising a flame tube 10 having a combustion gas outlet passage 12 accommodating a compressor-driving turbine 13 and a power turbine 15, the passage wall adjacent the free ends of the turbine rotor blades is formed by respective ceramic rings 21, 16 having annular recesses 29, 28 in their outer peripheries, each accommodating a metal annulus 31, 30 engaging a wall 25 surrounding the passage 12, the recesses and metal annulii having mutually engaging frustoconical side edges having notional apices intersecting at the same respective point ZY on the turbine axis. Each metal annulus can slide axially relative to the wall 25. As shown, the whole passage 12 is defined by a number of ceramic, e.g. silicon nitride, rings urged axially together by a clamping ring 23 and bolts 26 against a fixed abutment ring 24.
