Abstract

1483553 Surgical fluid container AMERICAN HOSPITAL SUPPLY CORP 21 Feb 1975 [26 Feb 1974] 7395/75 Heading A5R [Also in Division B8] A liquid dispensing pack for use with a parenteral solution administration set comprises a bottle having a base portion 11, a shoulder portion 10 with a dispersing outlet, a tubular wall with longitudinal rigidity such that the bottle may be supported upright on the base and limited lateral flexibility to allow partial collapse of the bottle to a reduced volume during dispensing of liquid, the uncollapsed bottle containing 50-95% of liquid and 50- 5% of sterile gas whereby the gas has a volume that is equal to or greater than the reduced volume capacity of the bottle, whereby the liquid can drain from the bottle without inletting additional air. The bottle is provided with a calibration 30b giving an accuracy of Œ30ml in a 1 litre pack. The bottle, Fig. 4, has an oval transverse cross-section, with a constant major axis and a minor axis which tapers toward the base 11 of the bottle. Ribs 33, 34 adjacent base 11 ensure that contact between the sides of the wall during drainage occurs adjacent the base. Ribs 26, 27 act as finger grips. An integrally formed hanger 25 locates in a recess 24. Liquid may be injected into the bottle through a part 16, Fig 3e. A second embodiment, Figs. 11-16 (not shown), is generally similar to the first embodiment except that ribs 26, 27 are omitted and the shoulder portion is generally conical. In alternative embodiments, Figs. 14, 21 (not shown), the bottle is provided with an alternative outlet and may be used for pouring out the liquid.
