Abstract

1483509 Electrophonic musical instruments NORLIN MUSIC Inc 23 Oct 1974 [23 Oct 1973 45783/74 Heading G5J An electrophonic musical instrument fills in notes in the octave immediately below the melody note which fill-in notes are octavely related to an accompaniment chord. The keys of the solo manual are scanned by a selection matrix 48 under the control of note code and octave code generators 14, 24 to produce pulses on line 56 indicating by their time slot the highest note played on the solo manual. The keys of the accompaniment manual are grouped in octavely related sets to provide on line 62 pulses whose time slot represents the accompaniment chord regardless of octave. Window logic 58 holds gate 64 open for twelve clock pulses so that line 66 carries pulses octavely related to the accompaniment chord in the octave immediately below the top melody note. These notes are decoded and held by latch unit 44 and used to control a note selector 74. Twelve tone signals at least one octave above the highest required octave are produced by generator 76 and the appropriate ones are selected and subjected to the appropriate binary frequency division by selector 74 under control of latch unit 44. The notes corresponding to different notes of the accompaniment chord may be given different voices by unit 86. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), window logic 58 excludes notes close to the top solo note to avoid dissonance. The circuit of a typical keyer 82 is described Fig. 7 (not shown).
