Abstract

1483387 Mixing apparatus KARL HANDLE & SOHNE MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI 17 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 54469/74 Heading B1C [Also in Divisions B4 and B5] An extruder for plastic material, comprises a part-cylindrical housing 1, having an inlet 5 and a circumferentially extrusion outlet 9 between which the material is conveyed by a rotor 2, provided with a plurality of blades 11 mounted in peripherals by spaced apart relationship around the rotor, and along paths which are spaced axially of the rotor 2 to define channels communicating between the inlet 5 and outlet 9. The spaces 13 between adjacent blades peripherally of the rotor 3 provides a kneading/mixing effect, and for an even distribution of the material axially of the rotor 2. Material is delivered to the rotor 2 at the inlet 5 by a roller 7, at the downstream end of which material is removed by a scraper 8, the material being deflected from the rotor 2 to the outlet 9 by a scraper 10. The blades 11 are releasably fastened to the rotor by ties extending parallel to the rotor axes (not shown), or individually by snap or catch fastenings engaging in recesses (not shown), or by screws or bolts 12 as shown, and the fastening may permit variation of the angle at which the blades 13 are aligned with respect to each other. The blades 11 may have different radial or peripheral lengths, and may have peripheral sides which are parallel to define spaces which taper radially inwardly as in Fig. 1, or may have sides which are tapered with respect to each other to define spaces (13) which are parallel sided, Fig. 2a (not shown), or taper radially inwardly, Fig. 2b (not shown), or taper radially outwardly Fig. 2c (not shown). The blades 11 may be fastened to the rotor 2 by elements 15, Fig. 3b, to give an arrangement where the blades are inclined to the axis of the rotor or, Fig. 3a (not shown), are at right angles thereto, and axially adjacent ones of which may be peripherally staggered. The blades 11 may also be twisted upon themselves so that their end faces peripherally of the rotor are inclined to the radii of the rotor.
