Abstract
1483377 Tape cassette MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 11 Dec 1974 53672/74 Heading B8M A tape cassette comprises a first plate 1 having an aperture surrounded by an internally threaded ring 14 and a second plate 2 having an aperture surrounded by a hollow member 19, a supply reel 8 and a take-up reel 9 disposed within the plates 1, 2, a first hollow cylindrical member 13 threadedly engaging the ring 14 to be able to approach or recede from the second plate 2 as it is rotated, and a magnetic tape supplied from the reel 8 to be guided helically around the axis of the apertures and received by the reel 9. The member 19 can be moved clockwise up to a certain angle after which it is urged to its original position by a spring (not shown). The cassette is made ready for loading on to a recorder by rotating the member 13 clockwise until its stepped portion 17 and slope 18 engage complementary portion 21 and slope 20 of the member 19 to rotate the member 19 to a certain angle which pulls wires 28 and 29 connecting member 19 to pivot levers 26 and 27, such that the levers move posts 22 and 23 away from the members 13 and 19 to hold the tape 10 stretched to the outside of the posts 22 and 23 (see Fig. 5). When the cassette is fitted to the recorder the member 13 is unscrewed, whereby the tape 10 slides over a tape guide 34 over which the members 13 and 19 were mounted and the tension of the spring causes the member 19 to return to its original position, while the levers 26 and 27 are rotated to release the posts 22 and 23 from the tape 10 which then contacts posts 36, 37 and 38, capstan 39 and heads 41 and 42 of a recorder ready for recording (see Fig. 6).
