Abstract

1483271 Metal complex azo pigments CIBA GEIGY AG 11 March 1976 [22 March 1975] 12062/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises tridentate metal complexes having the formula wherein A is an optionally substituted aryl or heterocyclic residue; R<SP>1</SP> is an optionally substituted aryl residue, any substituents on A or R<SP>1</SP> being non-water-solubilizing groups; X is O, S or CO 2 ; p is 1 or 2; when p is I, C is hydrogen attached to A; when p is 2, C is a direct link between two A residues or an alkyl. ene, arylene or aralkylene radical linking two A residues, and M is a transition metal of the first transition series. They may be prepared by metallizing a compound having the formula where R is hydrogen or alkyl. The compounds of Formula III may be prepared by coupling the diazo compound of an amine of formula with a compound of formula The complexes of Formula I are pigments which give shades of blue, red, violet and brown and may be used for the mass coloration of polymers and for the coloration of paints, lacquers and inks.
