1483105 Hydrophilic catheters HIGH VOLTAGE ENG CORP 19 Nov 1974 [19 Nov 1973] 50054/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division C3] A method of rendering superficially hydrophilic a catheter formed from a silicone composition comprises contacting the catheter with a liquid monomer composition comprising N- vinylpyrrolidone to permit the N-vinylpyrrolidone to invade the catheter, and exposing the catheter and monomer to a high dose of ionizing radiation for a short period to polymerise the monomer and to graft the N-vinylpyrrolidone to the silicone. The liquid monomer compostion may be an aqueous solution and may contain hydroxy ethyl methacrylate.
