Abstract
1483041 Fire fighting installation P NASH and R A YOUNG 15 July 1974 [16 April 1973] 18122/73 Heading A5A [Also in Division B2[ A fire-fighting installation comprises at least two sprinkler units e.g. 23, 24, Fig. 4, a pressure source 11 of fire-fighting liquid, and conduit 14, 21 connecting the units to the source so that at least one unit is downstream of at least one other. The axes of the units and of the conduits are preferably vertical. A detachable catchment pot for debris, e.g. 29, may be provided at the closed lower end of a vertical conduit 22. A strainer 13 may be connected to the source 11. A fire detector may control a zone valve 30 at the top of each vertical conduit. A sprinkler unit comprises a tube 1, Fig. 2, of substantially constant cross-section formed at each end with substantially identical fluid-tight connections 2, the tube walls having at least one pair of orifices, e.g. 6a, 6b, the axes of which intersect outside the unit, so that jets of water discharged through them will impinge to form a spray. The pairs of imping- ing jets may be grouped to favour water distribution within certain sectors.
