Abstract
The technical problem of the decomposition of a tert.-alkyl ether is solved by carrying out this decomposition in the presence of a uranium-based catalyst of the general formula U[(OH)nX4-n-] in which the substituent X can be an atom of chlorine, of bromine or of iodine, a half-sulphate ion, a nitric ion, an acetate ion or an acetylacetonate ion, and n is 0 to 4. This catalyst gives high yields and high selectivity.
