1482556 Sawing lumber E GRANBERG 19 Nov 1974 [20 Nov 1973] 50050/74 Heading B5L An apparatus for guiding a chain saw 20 in the cutting up of lumber comprises a frame provided with means for slidably engaging either a guide member positioned on the upper surface of the lumber or an edge surface of the lumber, and means for frictionally adjustably clamping the saw bar 22 of the chain saw to the frame to permit the chain saw to be engaged with the lumber at a selected angle (e.g. 45-90 degrees from the horizontal). In Figs. 1-3, the frame comprises a runner 32 (e.g. of plastics, teak, oil-impregnated oak) engageable with a guide member 34 (e.g. of inverted V-form and of aluminium) attachable to the lumber upper surface directly or with the interposition of a flat board 42, a stabilizing rail 36 (e.g. of aluminium) height-adjustable by way of slots 37 co-operating with frame studs 38 and with nuts 39, a handle 60 to be used in conjunction with the chain saw handle, and a saw bar clamp comprising threaded bolts 24 co-operating with a platform 26. Guide member 34 is moved between each cut. In Figs. 4-6 (not shown) the board 42 is arranged to be transversely positioned with respect to the lumber by way of stops (44) adapted to be extended transversely from the board to hook over an edge of the lumber and to be retracted into recesses in the board during cutting. In Fig. 6 (not shown) transversely disposed outrigger steady legs provided with ground-piercing spikes are adjustably attached to the board 42. In Fig. 8, extended frame studs 16 adjustably support a guide 82 slidably engageable with an edge surface 52 of the lumber, and a guide inset 90 (of aluminium V-section rail) slidably engageable with the upper surface 40 of the lumber is removably attached to the runner 32 by way of a wing screw 92.
