Abstract

1482510 Nuts D CHART 23 Dec 1976 35629/76 Heading F2H A nut comprises a castellated cylindrical body 10 including an annular portion 10B of circular cross-section radially inside the castellations 11, and a shroud 12 surrounding the body 10 and rotatable relative thereto, the portion 10B and the shroud 12 both extending axially at least the full extent of, and preferably beyond the tops of the castellations 11. As shown the body has a flange 10A and the shroud 12 is deformed into a circumferential groove in the body to retain the shroud. Alternatively the shroud may have an internal flange or one or more inwardly extending projections engaging the body. The castellations 11 may differ in axial and/or circumferential extent. The nut can be turned with a specially-shaped mating tool, the application of a conventional driving tool to the nut being prevented by the portion 10B and the shroud 12.
