Abstract

1482208 Catheter introduction devices BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM GmbH 23 Aug 1974 [25 Aug 1973] 37201/74 Heading A5R A device for use in the introduction of an intravasal catheter comprises an introduction tube I inside which, in use, a hollow pointed puncture needle 2 can be situated with its point protruding from the distal end thereof and through which, after withdrawal of the puncture needle, a catheter tube can be inserted; the introduction tube being tapered in the direction of the distal end, the diameter of the introduction tube in the vicinity of the distal end being such that the introduction tube fits snugly around the puncture needle to prevent any substantial lateral movement of the needle in the introduction tube, and the introduction tube being provided with a tear-off strip 7 extending along the length of the tube, the width of the strip being less than half the circumference of the tube, whereby in use the introduction tube can be torn open and removed following insertion of a catheter tube therethrough. The tube may be provided with a hollow hand-grip 4, which serves to receive blood when a vein is punctured, and which may have an air-permeable wall 5. The tube may be of metal or of plastics material.
