Abstract

1482139 Valves REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 3 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 38563/74 Heading F2V [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] Injector apparatus for the injection of fuel into an I.C. engine comprises an injector device with an inlet jet orifice 2 to meter fuel flowing continuously into the injector device, a collector orifice 3, which, during non-injection periods of the unit collects the fuel flowing through the inlet jet orifice, and a discharge orifice 10 through which fuel flows from the injector device for atomization in an engine induction pipe 11 during injection periods. During non-injection periods, fluid flows from the collector orifice past a ball valve 5 which is open as shown and in the direction of arrow 4 to a tank; whereas during injection periods the ball valve is actuated to its closed position by a coil 12 and the fuel is atomized through orifice 10. Operation of the ball valve 5 is responsive to engine operating conditions, e.g. speed, load and temperature. More than one injector device may be connected to manifold 14 and controlled by the same ball valve 5. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the inlet jet orifice (2 1 ) and collector orifice (3 1 ) are tangential with respect to the discharge orifice (10 1 ). In Fig. 4 (not shown), the discharge orifice is situated in a chamber (17) supplied with air at or near atmospheric pressure (e.g. from part of the induction pipe or manifold) and discharging through a tube 18 so that pressure variations do not modify the fluid output rate from the injection device.
