Abstract

1481680 Cigarette filters M SHEPARD 11 July 1974 [11 April 1973] 17434/73 Heading A2C A cigarette filter comprises three successive sections namely a condensing section - containing at least two perforated metallic discs mounted generally at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the filter with their perforations at least partly out of register, an absorption section containing a colloidal complex magnesium aluminium silicate containing less than 10% by weight of water of combination and a conventional filter section comprising a fibrous filter and forming the final section of the filter. As shown, condensing section 1 contains a pair of perforated metallic discs 5 formed by bending dumb-bell shaped member 6 (Fig. 2) in the manner shown (Fig. 4). Fig. 3 depicts a blank dumb-bell member with slits which may also be used. Filter sections 2, 4 contain conventional fibrous material e.g. cellulose, polyethylene, bamboo. Absorption section 3 is located between sections 2, 4 and may contain a compound of formula 3MgO . Al 2 O 3 . SiO 2 . H 2 O.
