Abstract
1481575 Eddy current clutches and brakes HEENAN DRIVES Ltd 16 Jan 1976 [10 Feb 1975] 5618/75 Heading H2A A drum 10 for an eddy current clutch or an eddy current brake comprises a ring of high magnetic permeability material 11 with slots (12, Fig. 7, not shown) on an inside face of the ring, and with high electrical conductivity material extending as bars 16 in the slots through the inside of the ring, and extending at 17, 18, 19 at the end and outer faces of the ring to form gapless closed toroidal current paths of high conductivity material around the ring, the high conductivity material being cast in one piece around the ring. In the drum shown the ring 11 is formed of non-laminated B.S. 592 Grade A steel, and the toroidal current paths are provided by aluminium material, the latter also being cast to form integral cooling blades 20, 21.
