1481346 Refuse treating plant J FROSSARD 13 Nov 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 49066/74 Heading B2A Household and like refuse is treated in a plant comprising a large collecting pit 5, at least one treating device comprising a feed hopper 7, a crusher 14 and a compactor 17 to push the crushed refuse into containers, means to transfer the refuse from the collecting pit to the feed hopper and to transfer the containers of treated refuse to trucks or lorries. In operation a lorry 4 Fig. 6 tips refuse into an intermediate pit 6 (one of several such pits). The lorry depresses a treadle 48 in backing up to the pit 6 and this actuates a jack 44 pushing a box 36 of the tipped rubbish into the main pit 5. The jack pusher 45 also clears fallen rubbish into a tunnel 50. A grab 27 transfers the rubbish from the pit 5 to the hopper 7 Fig. 2 whence it is fed by a conveyor 13 and crushed by the crusher 14 and distributed by a gate 16 and spout 15 to the compactors 17. Each compactor fills containers 9, Fig. 4, which are removed when full by a travelling crane 10 to transport trucks (11) Fig. 1, not shown. The pits 5 and 6 are in an enclosed building which includes doors 56, Fig. 6, to permit tipping from the lorries 4. The system includes a dust extractor 25, Fig. 4.
