Abstract
1481288 Thermoelectric devices COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 8 Jan 1976 [13 Jan 1975] 00716/76 Heading H1K A thermoelectric device for measuring both the mean temperature and the instantaneous temperature variations in a liquid metal, e.g. forming the coolant of a fast nuclear reactor, comprises a first thermocouple junction between the liquid metal (e.g. Na or Na-K alloy) itself and a hollow metal rod 12 (e.g. of stainless steel or a Ni-Cr alloy) and a second thermocouple junction 24 between conductors 22, 23 (e.g. Chromal and Alumal-Registered Trade Mark) located in a metal sheath 17 of the same metal as the rod 12 and welded thereto, e.g. via parts 20, 15 also of the same metal. The second junction 24 is located close to the welded joint between the sheath 17 and rod 12, and responds to mean temperatures whereas the first junction responds very rapidly to temperature variation. The sheath 17 is preferably filled with magnesia 21 and is insulated from the rod 12 other than at its active end by magnosia packing 25 in a shorter metal sheath 27 welded to the rod 12. As shown there are two sheaths 17, 18 each carrying a thermocouple.
