Abstract
148,120. Schmidtmann, E. Sept. 19, 1916, [Convention date]. Machine guns. - Relates to means for cooling the barrel by air currents produced by a fan rotated by the movement of the barrel on firing. According to the invention, a single or multiple threaded screw b on the muzzle imparts rotation, during recoil and return of the barrel to a sleeve c on which a fan e is mounted. The to and-fro rotation of the sleeve c acts preferably through a ratchet device d<2> to move the fan continuously in one direction. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that a rack on the gun may rotate the fan through spur gearing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
