Abstract

1481139 IC engine crank-cases FIAT SpA 23 May 1975 [14 June 1974] 22844/75 Heading F1B The crank-case of a diesel engine comprises a lower part 1 incorporating crank-shaft bearing caps 2, and an upper part, a resilient gasket 5 being interposed therebetween to damp vibration and act as an oil seal. The gasket, which may be of rubber, is located by a relieved portion 3 of a depth less than half the gasket thickness which extends over the whole mating surface of the lower part except in the region of the bearing caps where the upper and lower parts contact each other directly. The caps are preferably integral with the lower part, and compartments between them facilitate the discharge of oil to the sump to improve lubrication.
