Abstract
1480857 Extracting proteins L I GILLBERG and E B TORNELL 20 June 1975 [20 June 1974] 26370/75 Heading C3H A protein isolate substantially free from phytic acid is made by extracting defatted seeds of the genera Brassica or Crambe in an aqueous medium at pH 10À5 to 12 and temperature 0 to 70 C. to yield protein, separating solids to obtain a solution of proteins, precipitating the proteins from the solution by adding an acid and a precipitation aid, separating the precipitate obtained and washing the precipitate to remove associated mother liquor. Phytic acid is defined as inasitol hexaphosphoric acid, its salts or other compounds thereof. If desired the process defined above may be preceded by a heat treatment to deactivate myrosinases prior to extraction. Examples describe the treatment of rapeseeds to yield proteinaceous products containing only traces of phyticphosphorus and glucosinolates.
