1480831 Treating water CHEMED CORP 17 June 1974 26817/74 Addition to 1,208,827 Heading ClC [Also in Division C7] Water is treated to inhibit the deposition of scale and sludge by adding thereto from 0À1 to less than 2 p.p.m. of a mixture of (a) an acrylic acid, or methacrylic acid polymer or copolymers thereof and water-soluble salts thereof, said polymers having an average M.wt. of 500- 1,000,000 and (b) a polyphosphonic acid of formula wherein m is an integer from 1-10, R 1 is H of C 1-6 alkyl, R 2 is OH, H or C 1-6 alkyl, R 3 is C 1-10 alkyl, benzyl or phenyl and R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene or a water-soluble salt thereof.
