Abstract

1480755 Tufting SINGER CO 20 Nov 1974 50230/74 Heading D1G A pattern control for tufting machines comprises a console (52 Fig. 1 not shown) provided with an open ended hollow drum 102 having a light transmitting surface and a pattern element 106, having light transmitting and opaque areas mounted on the drum surface, a light source 98 (which may be incandescent or fluorescent) within the drum and a plurality 84 of photocells adjacent to the drum, the drum being supported on a cradle comprising a plurality of members 132, 138 drivingly connected to the drum periphery at each end, means being provided for rotating the members in timed relationship with the tufting machine. The means comprises a sprocket 150 engaging a toothed belt 154 driving two drums 102 and 100, the sprocket being driven by a stepping motor (162, Fig. 2 not shown) connected to a pulse generator on the tufting machine. Two drums and photocells are provided so that the control may provide three heights of tufting.
