Abstract

1480714 Ultrasonic cleaning of pipes S K USHANOV V M FRIDMAN J I KITAIGORDSKY and K A KUUSIK 21 Oct 1975 43171/75 Heading F2N [Also in Division C7] A device for ultrasonic cleaning comprises a bath 6, divided into two regions by a baffle 7, holding a detergent liquid, e.g. 10% caustic soda, ultrasonic transducers 23, a trough 11 for supporting articles to be cleaned which is urged towards the bottom of said bath by springs, and a pulsed supply of detergent to said bath. In use, the trough is vibrated by movement against the springs by means of the detergent supplied to the trough impinging on baffles (18) attached to said trough; or by increase in the pressure of the detergent supply. The pulsed supply is achieved by an impulse pump 24 and the detergent is recycled via filter 28 and pipe 32 from the overflow region 8 of the tank where grease film is removed via outlet 9. In another embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the trough 11 is urged against a framework (46) secured by spring loaded hydraulic devices (41) to the floor of the bath and the pulse supply is achieved by a circulation pump (33) and a pulse valve (34). The pulse valve (34) is electrically operated and when open allows detergent to be fed to the tank but when closed causes an overpressure in the fluid supply to activate the spring loaded hydraulic devices to shake the trough. The apparatus may be used for removing dirt and grease from metal or plastics parts such as draw plates, watch components or automobile nozzles.
