Abstract
1480633 Paper pulp screening apparatus BLACK CLAWSON CO 23 Aug 1974 [28 Aug 1973] 37257/74 Heading B1D Apparatus for screening paper pulp slurry comprises a tangential inlet 13 leading to the interior of a cylindrical screen 15 having axially oriented slots 40 whose width (Fig. 2) is considerably less than that of the solid lands 42 between them, whereby fibres whose length exceeds the width of lands 42 tend to catch across the lands rather than pass through the slots, rotating vanes 35 then removing such caught fibres which are eventually discharged through rejects valve 23. The slurry flows helically down the screen and fibres tend to orientate tangentially thereof. Typically slots 40 are 0.5 mm wide and 2 mm apart so that fibres longer than 2.2 mm are rejected, while short fibres and particulates pass outwards through the screen to outlet 18. Screen 15 has three rows of slots 2 inches long and the rows are 1 inch apart. Vanes 35 extend helically and are adjustably mounted at 37 on rotor 30. Slots may be provided with narrow portions extending only part way through the screen on the upstream side (Fig. 3 not shown). A valve 25 enables heavy solids collecting at the bottom of the rejects chamber 21 to be discharged into box 24.
