Abstract

1329905 Screening apparatus for paper pulp BIRD MACHINE CO Inc 9 Dec 1971 [16 Dec 1970] 57291/71 Heading B1D A paper pulp screening apparatus comprises a slotted or perforate cylindrical screen 12 enclosing a rotor 14 whose exterior surface presents bumps or lobes to create a cleaning action on the screen and whose interior includes a passage whereby material is recycled from the rejects outlet zone 24 to the inlet end of the annular screening zone 32, thereby reducing concentration of rejected solids in zone 24 and increasing the throughput of accepted material to zone 20. The rotation of the rotor causes its interior to act as a centrifugal pump, material being drawn in through apertures 42 and discharged through the open end of the rotor or through sidewall apertures 44, if the rotor end is closed, or both. Rejects material may be continuously discharged, but as shown rejects valve 28 is opened intermittently 'by timer 30. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the inlet of the rotor is an annular gap between its lower edge and a central pedestal. Screen 12 may have round inwardly tapering holes 0.25 inches wide or slots of 0.025 inches width and 1.5 inches long. The lobes on the rotor in Fig. 3 (Fig. 2 not shown) extend its whole length.
