Abstract

148,062. Brun, G. Sept. 1, 1919, [Convention date]. Jib cranes. - Comprises a self-propelled crane for use on roads in which the driver's seat, steering handwheel, and the motor propelling the crane and driving the crane parts are all carried on the crane turntable or platform. The crane rotates on a roller turntable F about a fixed post D. The motor 1 drives a shaft 4 through spur gearing 2. The shaft 4 drives (1) the luffing-drum 29 through clutch and bevel reversing-gear 24; (2) the sluing-gear 20 through clutch and bevel reversing-gear 16; (3) the hoisting drum 12 through an intermediate shaft 7 and a clutch; and (4) the driving road wheels K through two-speed gear 35, bevel reversing-gear 40, bevel-gearing 42, a sleeve on the post D, and gearing 44. Brake drums are provided on the hoisting and sluing shafts. The steering wheels H are swivelled by the hand-wheel M through a shaft 54, bevel-gearing and a sleeve on the post D, and a shaft 58 rotating a worm-wheel 59, Fig. 4. This worm-wheel forms a nut on a rod 61, so that as the worm-wheel rotates, the rod is moved axially and so swivels the steering- wheels through links 62 and 65. The hand-wheel M may be disconnected from the steering-wheels, or a brake may be arranged on the bevel-gearing on the post D to prevent sluing of the crane interfering with the steering-wheels.
