Abstract

1479947 Accumulating articles on rollerways RAPISTAN Inc 4 Oct 1974 [9 Oct 1973] 43120/74 Heading B8A An accumulation roller conveyer comprises belt driven rollers 12 each of which is bowed along its longitudinal axis. The belt 16 has a rib 16a (not shown) which is guided in a groove formed in pressure rollers 14 located midway between the rollers 12, thus permitting the belt to flex downardly. Fig. 3 illustrates how the rollers 12 take up random rotational positions. An article H will be propelled due to a number of the rollers 12 being in driving engagement with the article and the belt 16. When an article, e.g. J, is halted by a stop 20 the rollers 12 supporting it, if they are drivingly engaged with the belt, continue to turn until they lose sufficient engagement with the belt to continue turning. On removal of the stop, however, there is adequate propelling force for the article to be moved forward again. To cover a range of article weights and belt speeds vertical adjustment of the pressure rollers 14 is provided for. Alternatively, for certain conditions, one or more strips of material having a roughened surface may be provided on the belt.
