1479919 Printing press; control of registration WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 19 Dec 1974 [24 Jan 1974] 55019/74 Heading B6C A printing press, Fig. 3, in which either the plate cylinder 15 or the impression cylinder 16 can be tripped to provide an impression at desired positions on a film 12 is characterized by the provision of either a rotary oam (not shown) or a digital counter to control the tripping, and by an annular marking extending entirely around the plate cylinder circumference the imprint of which on the film indicates the extent of the printed area and assists subsequent operations, e.g. severing. The invention is particularly applicable to the printing of flat tubes of plastics film, Fig. 2 (not shown), which are cut into sections and used as shrink-on envelope packaging, Fig. 1 (not shown). The digital counter preferably operates with the film feed and comprises a cam plate 22 and induction generator 29 providing control pulses. The film may be pretreated by electric discharge to improve printability, the area of treatment being similarly defined with the rotary cam or counter.
