1479723 Vehicle washing apparatus J V CONNOLLY 1 Oct 1974 [9 July 1973] 32525/73 Heading B7J A vehicle washing apparatus comprises respective sets of spraying nozzles for directing water and cleaning fluid on to a vehicle 2, the nozzles preferably being carried by a vertically movable, rectangualr horizontal frame 1, and a system for supplying water and fluid under pressure to the nozzles including a water pump 9, Fig. 1, supplying water to a pressurized water accumulator 8 which in turn supplies the water nozzles, and a liquid injection pump 19 for mixing cleaning concentrate with water to produce the cleaning fluid. In Fig. 1, the water supply to the injection pump 19 is from the water accumulator 8, whereas in Fig. 2 there is a pressurized cleaning fluid accumulator 23 in addition to the water accumulator 22. A second water pump 25 supplies water via the liquid injection pump 28 to the accumulator 23. Each accumulator comprises a closed rigid container enclosing a flexible bag supplied with compressed air to pressurize the liquid which is accommodated within the container but external to the bag. The frame 1 is fabricated from U-section material of which the open side points inwardly of the frame and accommodate the nozzles and supply pipes thereto. Selected groups of nozzles are operable by solenoid valves and the frame is raisable and lowerable by hydraulic jacks fitted in master 3, so that a predetermined wash and rinse cycle may be performed.
