Abstract

1479507 Gas analysis AUERGESELLSCHAFT GmbH 2 Oct 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 42796/74 Heading G1B A method for the automatic, continuous and quantitative measurement of the carbon halide content in gases, comprises heating a known quantity of such gases at 300-600‹C in the presence of water vapour and catalysts to form the corresponding halohydracid which is then washed with a known quantity of water, the halohydracid wholly dissolving and subsequently dissociating in the water, and measuring the ion concentration in this water so as to indicate the carbon halide content in the gas. The ion concentration may be detected by measuring the pH value or the conductivity of the washing water. The catalyst may be platinium, platinum black, quartz and rare earth oxides. In an embodiment, the catalyst may be in the form of a quartz tube provided with electrical heating means, and gases catalytically heated in this tube are impinged upon a portion of unrolled moistened reaction paper.
