Abstract
1479243 Thermal switches WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd 12 Feb 1976 [14 March 1975] 10677/75 Heading H1N [Also in Division H2] A fuse resistor comprises a resistor 1 having one terminal lead in two parts 6, 7 connected by solder 16 so that on overload heat is conducted to melt the solder and allow the resilient part 7 to spring away. The resistor 1, which comprises a wire or film element on an elongate ceramic body, is mounted in a shallow plastics ring 8 from which terminal portions 4, 12, of the resistor leads 3, 7 depend. The terminals 4, 12 may be inserted in holes in a printed circuit board which is held spaced from the ring 8 by shoulders (13 Fig. 2A not shown) on the terminal 12 or protuberances on the ring. The material of the ring may be selected from nylon, polyesters, epoxies, silicones, and phenolics, with or without fillers. The fuse resistor may be at least partially coated with enamel, cement or lacquer. The ring may have a slot 9 to allow it to accommodate resistors of different sizes.
