Abstract

1478950 Paper comprising a synthetic pulp TORAY INDUSTRIES INC 24 March 1975 [22 March 1974 17 Jan 1975] 12123/75 Heading D2B [Also in Division B5] Paper is made from a synthetic pulp of a fibrillated fibrous material comprising a hydrophobic polymer and continuous or interrupted striae, extending the direction of the fibre axis of a hydrophilic polymer distributed in the hydrophobic polymer, which striae have a noncircular cross-section and a thickness of less than 1 micron and having a ratio [1 1 /1 2 ] of width [1 1 ] thickness [1 2 ], the thickness [1 2 ] being 10 microns or less and at least a predominant proportion of the material having a length of 15 mm or less. The hydrophobic polymer may be a polyamide, polyester, polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylonitrile, a styrene polymer, a poly-α-olefin, or a copolymer of at least 2α-olefin polymers, or of ethylene with a monomer such as vinyl acetate, or an acrylate. The paper may include wood pulp.
