1478913 Builder motions SPRING MILLS Inc 28 June 1974 [24 Jan 1974] 28923/74 Addition to 1350178 Heading DID A yarn processing machine has a ring rail 14 operated by a builder motion which includes rockably mounted crank arms 16 coupled to the ring rail, apparatus being provided for moving and controlling the ring rail during start up, the apparatus comprising a piston/cylinder 30/31 connected between the crank arm and the machine frame which, under the control of an electric circuit, Fig. 6, sequentially (1) lowers the ring rail to a doffing position below the bobbins (2) controls the rise speed of the ring rail brought about by the builder motion to a position near the bottom of the bobbins, and (3) lowering and jogging the ring rail adjacent the bottom of the bobbins to remove slack and build a bunch. During doffing the ring rail is held in its lowest position by a solenoid operated latch 48 which also acts on one of the builder motion levers 16. Operation of the electric circuit, Fig. 6, is initiated by the position of the ring rail. The electric control circuit comprises a timing motor 73 driving switch cams C1-C8 which activate the various fluid operated members and also the main drive motor 88. During doffing pigtail guides 55 are raised by means of piston/cylinder 57/58 via cables 59. The main building motion is generated by a cam 100 which drives a lever 102. The lever 102 has a drum which carries a ring rail drive chain 26. the drum being rotated by a ratchet and pawl mechanism 120, 110 via worm gears 125, 126 and the ratchet and pawl being driven by striking a stop 115 during reciprocation of lever 102. The drum 130 is connected to worm drive 126 by spring loaded ratchet pegs 132 such that when the ring rail is lowered by the said piston/cylinder unit 30, 31 the drum is rewound by an internal torsion spring.
