1478532 Fluidised beds BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 2 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 19548/74 Heading B1F [Also in Division F1] A fluidised bed combustion apparatus is arranged to deliver combustion gases and air heated during flow through tubes disposed in the fluidised bed, to a gas turbine, there being filter means positioned across the heated air flow between the fluidised bed and the gas turbine. The fluidised bed combustion chamber is shown at 10 and air is supplied thereto from compressor 6 through line 5, solid cool particles being supplied to the bed by a highpressure air stream through duct 40. The combustion gases are cleared in a cyclone separator 14 before discharge through line 15 to the gas turbine 16. Some of the air from the compressor 6 and line 5 enters distributor 22 to flow through tubes 12 disposed in the fluidised bed whereby the air is heated, the heated air being collected at 24 and then mixed with the combustion gases discharging from separator 14. A filter device 28 comprising a sintered metal tube having an end plate 30 is secured to the outlet end 32 of each air heater tube 12. Alternatively the filter may comprise a stack of annular plates 36, the plates being radially grooved, the stack of plates and an end plate 38 being clamped together by a yoke member 34. The filter is provided so that in the event of a tube splitting, no dust particles can pass into the turbine. The assembly is contained within an outer pressure vessel 4.
